SHR Talent is currently representing a well-established healthcare company in its search for a full-time Revenue Accounting Manager to join the office in Nashville, TN! The Manager of Revenue Accounting is a new role leading the Company’s centralized revenue accounting function. The position will report directly to the Senior Director – Corporate Accounting. This role will initially serve as an individual contributor, and will likely build a revenue accounting team as the Company grows. The corporate accounting team is part of a larger accounting organization lead by the Controller. The Manager Revenue Accounting will partner closely with the clinical practices accounting team, strategic finance team, business analytics team, corporate FP&A team, treasury, and operations teams to dynamically develop proper revenue accounting methodologies, accounting positions and evaluate prospective practice revenue methodologies under US GAAP. In addition, the individual will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the Company’s monthly close process around revenue, performing and documenting technical accounting research around revenue, coordinating all external audit activity associated with revenue, and most importantly, ensuring proper revenue recognition across all practices. This individual will also work closely with the practice operations team including VP of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM), VP of Managed Care, outsourced RCM providers, Chief Operating Officer, and the Regional Vice Presidents of Operations.
This individual will be based in Nashville and have direct daily interaction with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and other executives. Therefore, the individual must be skilled at communication with all constituents including C-Suite executives, corporate leaders, practice leaders located at the individual practices, and business partners at all levels. Additionally, the individual in this role will be expected to function daily with a proactive, customer service mindset inside a growing, dynamic environment. This position may be upgraded to a Sr. Manager or Director position depending on the individual candidate.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely and proactively across each of the practice accounting teams to ensure proper revenue methodologies across all practices, monitoring of monthly revenue and RCM KPI/metrics across all practices, revenue recognition under US GAAP, and reporting at each of the Company’s practices
- Oversee and manage the month-end revenue close process including coordination with FP&A, practice accounting, and clinical practice leaders
- Provide real-time evaluation and analyses of revenue trends as part of month-end close and forecasting process
- Work closely with corporate FP&A and Treasury functions to predict future cash collections and revenue forecast information
- Maintain a strong understanding of CMS and other revenue guidance issued by commercial payors, federal, state, or local authorities around reimbursement rates
- Work closely with VP of RCM and VP of Managed Care to understand and translate proposed changes in payor contracts as to how revenue will be recognized by the company and its partner practices
- Participate in diligence activities with strategic finance team to understand revenue recognition as well as cash to accrual requirements at prospective future partner practices
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with US GAAP
- Preparing and reviewing ad-hoc internal and external financial reporting and analysis
- Develop, document, implement and maintain the Company’s revenue accounting policies and procedures
- Research complex accounting issues related to revenue and document accounting position papers
- Identify areas of process improvement, recommend changes, and execute improvements
- Additional responsibilities will be assigned to a high performing individual
Qualifications:
- Accounting degree (with graduate degree preferred, but not required)
- Prior experience supervising or direct responsibility for healthcare revenue recognition in a provider environment
- 5+ years of combined professional accounting experience required
- Prior experience with a Big 4 or large regional firm preferred but not required
- Proven knowledge of GAAP, FASB, PCAOB, and SEC regulations
- Strong knowledge of internal controls, best practices, and the ability to research and document accounting and financial topics required
- Strong excel skills
- Strong PowerPoint skills – direct experience producing materials for senior management
- Working knowledge of Workday or other ERP platforms
- Active CPA license required
