Description

SHR is working with a large, well-known company in the digital and publishing space looking to hire a dynamic DevOps Engineer to one of their growing teams! This position is available 100% remote. The DevOps Engineer is responsible for maintaining uptime, availability, and security for infrastructure that powers a variety of public web properties.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate as an infrastructure operations team member on a small team to deliver a highly secure, available, and performant web infrastructure for web offerings serving millions of unique visitors every month
  • Contribute to the evolution of cloud-based infrastructure to meet the needs of its millions of monthly users
  • Continually improve infrastructure security, performance, and availability
  • Implement industry-standard best practices for security in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment
  • Assist developers and nontechnical stakeholders in troubleshooting a variety of server-related issues
  • Participate in on-call rotation for server issues

 

Education: Degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
Work Experience: 2+ years’ experience in related field
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with Unix-like operating systems and cloud architecture.

Skills:

  • Experience administering open-source web stack software (we use CentOS, Apache, Nginx, MySQL, and PHP-FPM)
  • Experience with server configuration automation (we use Ansible and Terraform and are transitioning away from Puppet)
  • Proven ability to script in multiple languages (we primarily use Python and shell scripting, with some basic PHP support)
  • Familiarity with the PrometheGrafana or similar monitoring system
  • Experience with Git or similar version-control system
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services. We use EC2, S3, ALB/ELB, RDS, ElastiCache, Elasticsearch,

    CloudFront, Lambda, DynamoDB, and CloudWatch, among others

  • Experience securing web environments
  • Experience with WordPress
